  1. What a great video. I've got some attachment issues with this journal but I've also noticed that I've been drawing things in the journal. I can draw a pretty poor stick fella, so I don't draw. But because I've been invited to use the journal and draw in it, It's becoming easier to draw an umbrella, for example and not mind if I mess it up. I even tried to draw a person. They are pretty awful, but I did it. I may branch out this weekend and try to draw a banana!

I'm really enjoying this and am so glad to have found this group of wreckers. :)

  2. Loved your video Jamie. Great insights. I keep ignoring the page that says to give away my favorite page ;) heehee. And thanks for mentioning the twitter hashtag. I've been having fun running into new people from the group there, too!

  3. Wow Jamie! What a great video with lots of interesting things to think about. I caught my breath a little when you talked about attachment being related to trust. YES - BINGO something inside of me cried - THAT'S it. When I'm performing I face that challenge everyday. One night you do something and it gets a laugh. The next night the temptation is to do the same thing - but you can't. You have to deliberately put it aside to be here in this moment - honestly. It takes such courage. I do it - but always with apprehension because I don't really trust that I can come up with something that's "as good." Isn't that funny - what could be better than here - now - THIS adventure. Thanks Jamie!!

  4. Really interesting! I think it all depends what sort of attachment you are forming with the journal.... I love the sense of opportunity that the destruction creates...

In ecology if a species or two dies out then it leaves a gap for other species to evolve into. I think this wrecking is like that. Every act leaves space for new creativeness to evolve....

  5. great video!great topic! I tend to become way to attached to my art work, thus at times refusing to even sell any! So I think this will be a great exercise for me. I need to learn to let go! I am having such fun! thank you. My 16 yr old daughter has been having a blast coming up with wrecking ideas. So much so that she wants her own book now. Which I plan to surprise her with this week! I've been trying to get her interested in art journaling or even just journaling for a while now..and this project did the trick!!

  6. Fascinating people are having issues with violent behaviour, I can see their perspective of course, I guess it isn't one of my issues. Lately it's been more about having energy to do something but at least this week I got a lot done. I hope I find the energy to do more and wow Jamie, I bet you freaked when that woman smushed your artwork together! Good grief.

There are few things I get attached to. I will come up with something that I care about and destroy it. Oh I know! I know what I am going to do now. Thanks Jamie, you rock big sis!

  7. It seems many of us had the same experience this week re being afraid to wreck something we had created. I had been planning a very gentle stroll with my journal over grass so I didn't destroy the pretty front cover but then the other half of me really told me off! You're right about trust. Who knows what interesting creative things will happen when I drag my journal through the dirt or across gravel. A little soaking might turn a mediocre page into something wonderful - and I really think another trip out of the window won't hurt! I've enjoyed this week because I've really been letting go and so to keep that feeling I have to 'lose the attachment'. Eek. Watch this space!

  9. I am finding that the book is getting my creative juices flowing. I caught myself prettying it up and had to stop and think about that to figure out what was happening. such an amazing experience! and all from some scribbling, ripping, and in my near future - dragging! shower? ew...still shy about that one. ciao!

  12. This is ironic to me that I wrecked away for two weeks thinking nothing of it, and now that my journal has taken the pounding I'm finally attached to it.

I've come to think of it more of a coloring/activity book like those for long trips in the back-seat of a car during summer vacation!

  13. Oohhh, this week was tough for me! I'm really learning how to sit with anxiety and other uncomfortable feelings, though. I'm learning that they're just feelings... not big scary things that I need to avoid at all costs:)

    Happy wrecking everyone!

  14. attachment! Maybe that is why I can't bring myself to throw it out the car window while driving down the highway ... or would that be littering? hmmmmmmm.

(I lost a comment so hope this isn't a repeat.)

  15. I did it: I faced one of my demons! I took my book in the shower with me and got the pages all damp and wrinkled on the edges - not to mention smearing my page numbers! I had lots of signs that this was what I needed to do, so I heeded them. Lots of wreckage this week!

  20. Hey all, joining in a couple weeks late, but here I am. My first attempts at wrecking were almost painful! Baby steps.

  21. I have been having problems posting here...I think my computer is wonky. I am having fun, but it was a slowish week. I have plans for the weekend tho!

  22. It was real fun, "baptising" my journal. But I must be carful, if I look, what others have done with it, it might influence me too much.
All in all, it's more fun than I thought it was.
    Greetings from Germany!

  23. Jamie, I know you didn't do this just for me, but it turns out this journal wrecking is JUST what the doctor ordered! The girls and I had so much fun taking our journal on a little journey.

  24. Thanks as always, and again, for the inspiring vlog! You are fabulous at this, and so encouraging. Hm...I think I got over the "attachment" part this past week - my journal is wrecked, nothing pretty about it. Maybe this week will be my "uncomfortable" week (switching 3 and 2 then). Although I still am very unsure of the desirability of letting my journal in the house, now. It is kind of like a big stinky dog. You love her - but you really don't want her in the house until she has a bath and has been coiffed and perfumed. I think I may just continue the route I'm on, at least for a little while. Maybe I'll be back to the original pages by the end of the week. Will be interesting to see how things go for me this week.

  26. I have been having such fun doing this and checking out other blogs.

  27. Q to you @ll:

Does your journal have a name? (I was thinking about this)

I'm so proud: I've done the water dropping thing today.

  28. Hi All! sbartist post number 68 for week 3 - I sent my Journal through the mail...very humorous at the P.O. - but came home after a slumber party relatively unscathed...that's OK. I'm going to the in-laws for Father's Day dinner and I'll introduce my Journal to "Rusty"...see you soon : ) Sb

  29. This is so much fun and my daughter and her friend are inspired to buy a couple of journals and go through the pages together. Why not??

    Great video, btw! Fun!!

  30. sbartist post number 76 link: Week # 3 part deux - last evening the Journal was introduced to "Rusty" my BIL's golden retriver. Boy did he have fun with my book. I am going to upload the pix as a video, so that you can see all the action...and then I played with my food at the dinner table with my book entering Steak [used as a stamp] and baked potato with sour cream & green onion and salad with berry balsamic viniagrette. The family thinks I've officially flown the coop"!!!

  31. I'm so glad I found this blog through the blog of someone taking part in it! I'm coming in late (that's about right for me, lol), but I also started my book months ago but have been neglecting it since, so I'm probably about where I'd need to be anyway, sicne I only have about six pages worked on. :)

I'm going to put what I've done so far into one blog post and stick the link into that form thingy above this post, then next week will be an update with new things done to it. :)

  32. Actually, I'll just make that post tomorrow and add it to tomorrow's entry sign up thing. I forgot today was already Thursday. Oops? ;)
